WE GET A PEEK AT THE BUILD PROCESS OF THE 1,479-HP LAND ROCKET

Rolls-Royce claims to make bespoke cars, but compared to the production process of the Bugatti Chiron, the crew at Goodwood is cranking out cars like Toyota. The 1,479-hp Chiron seems to have more in common with a jet pack than a road car, and the build process itself is aeronautics-grade.Until now, not many people have seen just how the Chiron takes shape. One reason for that is it takes a crew of 20 people six months to complete each Chiron in the Molsheim, France, factory — a facility that looks like something from Neill Blomkamp’s “Elysium” (now that we think about it, there was, in fact, a Bugatti-branded spaceship in that film). The Verge was one of the first publications to get a look at the production process of the quad-turbocharged W16 machine that made its first major U.S. appearance last fall at The Quail, after a world debut at the Geneva motor show in 2016.

Expensive news points out, the Molsheim factory produces something very futuristic-looking, but the build process itself is almost devoid of automation of any sort; the 1,800 parts of the Chiron hypercar are joined mostly by hand, with the factory planning to complete just 70 cars this year.
