THE NEW FERRARI FXX-K EVO IS A RACE-READY THING OF BEAUTY
Revealed last weekend in Mugello, it is possibly the wildest Ferrari ever
Ferrari unveiled a new FXX-K last weekend at its Finali Mondiali races in Mugello, and what a thing of beauty it is.
Engineers worked with the Ferrari Style Center “…to push to the very limit of performance…”
The biggest difference over the previous FXX-K is the fixed rear wing. It replaces the two outboard-mounted winglets that graced the previous FXX-K with a twin-profile-element active rear spoiler. Channeling air to that wing are two side fins and a central fin. There are also three triangular vortex generators that, taken together, increase downforce from rear elements by 10 percent.
In front, a pair of flicks were added to the corners of the car adding 10 percent downforce to balance the front and rear of the car.
New vortex generators underneath the car add 30 percent of the downforce on this car versus the previous FXX-K.
Suspension at all four corners was likewise retuned to accommodate the increase in downforce.
The FXX-K Evo is also lighter thanks to “an innovative carbon fiber component crafting process,” though Ferrari would not say just how much lighter.
The FXX-K Evo will be available both as “an extremely limited run model” and as an upgrade package for existing FXX-Ks. The car is aimed “…at a small, highly select group of Ferrari clients: supercar enthusiasts eager to share the development of technologically innovative content through driving a closed-wheeled laboratory car.” Look for it in the 2018 and 2019 seasons of the XX Program.
