New BMW supercar proposed for 2016 I bought myself a double-espresso on my last birthday. But when you’re a big car company, like Germany’s BMW, you do things a bit bigger. That’s the news from CAR magazine, where in celebration of the automaker’s 100th birthday in 2016, BMW is considering giving itself a new supercar: the M8. Inspired by the 2008 M1 Homage Concept (that commemorated the 30th anniversary of the M1 supercar), above, the new M8 would use the lightweight chassis of the 2014 i8 plug-in hybrid. Instead of a 349 horsepower hybrid powertrian, a more appropriate 600 hp twin-turbo V8 would be employed, aiming for a 3.0-second 0-100 time and 300 kilometres per hour top speed. If the M8 gets the nod, don’t expect it to arrive until 2016.
