Sacrilege alert: Is Ferrari making an SUV?

THE ‘BIGGEST’ FERRARI YET COULD BE COMING IN 2021

Well, it could finally be happening … a Ferrari SUV/crossover thing. That is, according to a report in Car magazine citing unnamed sources within Ferrari.

The Italian supercar maker isn’t calling it an SUV, but it supposedly goes by the codename F16X and will be built alongside a replacement for the GTC4Lusso. Car is reporting that the vehicle will have a raised ride height and feature a coupe-like shape. In a more exotic move, the crossover could get suicide rear doors with no B-pillars to allow easy access to the back seats.

The report goes on to say the vehicle will get a V8 hybrid powertrain, ditching the V12 currently found in the GTC4Lusso. We’d expect such a V8 to be a version of the one currently found in the 488 GTB and California T with a hybrid unit tacked on, reminiscent of the LaFerrari. Pricing is expected to be classically stratospheric at over $340,000 — bigger car, bigger price, it seems. This report also claims a launch of the F16X in 2021, so there’s every chance this could all change dramatically over the next four years.

Every manufacturer is hopping on the SUV bandwagon, even Lamborghini soon. It’s been a great business decision for those who have executed it (i.e., PorscheJaguar) so Ferrari could very well be following the rest down the well-paved rabbit hole.

We’ve reached out to Ferrari for comment and will update if we get a response.
