McLaren F1 counts down to new car, possible new livery

FANS HOPE THE TEAM WILL REVERT TO ITS CLASSIC ORANGE APPEARANCE

Rumors swirling about McLaren F1’s new livery are only getting fueled by the team itself as it teases its new Formula 1 car. A tweet announcing an unveil date for the car — Feb. 24 — sports orange lettering and hexagonal lines, giving fans hope a livery in that color could return.

Last year, longtime chairman Ron Dennis departed and was replaced by executive director Zak Brown, who said that he wants to “hear from them [fans]. I want to hear what they love about McLaren, about what they’d like to see McLaren do.”

Well, fans have been clamoring for the team to retire the chrome and gray livery the company has worn since 1997. According to motorsport.com, Brown said during the Autosport International Show last weekend, “We’ve just signed off on the car livery, and I think the fans will be excited to find out what the car looks like both technically and visually.”

We won’t see the full livery until the end of next month. However, if McLaren is hoping to gets fans excited about the new car, a new — orange — livery would certainly be the way to do it.
