Expensive News – Ferretti Custom Line 120 to Debut this Summer

Ferretti Group has announced plans to premiere its Custom Line 120 this summer.

The Francesco Paszkowski design is the first planing hull in the Custom Line series. It incorporates elements from automotive design, the aviation industry and residential architecture, and can be customized to each owner’s preferences.

For example, the Custom Line 120 has a cockpit with a window whose two sections can be opened separately. A company in the aviation industry collaborated on the window, which has an area above it that’s set up as a lounge with a TV.

Another example, from residential architecture, is the use of support columns that contain lighting systems, audio systems and air conditioning.

Accommodations: In addition to the master stateroom, there are four en suite guest staterooms. The two located aft have their beds athwartships, for views out the hull-side windows. Crew quarters are in the bow.

Power plants: Twin MTU 16V 2000 M94 engines are expected to produce a cruising speed of 22 knots and a top end of 25 knots. At 11 knots, range is expected to exceed 1,050 nautical miles.

Expensive News – Turquoise Yachts Sells 252-Foot Superyacht

Turquoise Yachts in Turkey has sold a 252-foot superyacht, the largest in the shipyard’s history. Delivery to the European owners is scheduled for spring 2018.

The yacht is an evolution of the builder’s 236-foot Vicky, which launched in 2012. Design is by H2 Yacht Design. The profile will incorporate a stretched arch around the aft section of the yacht, and the accommodations will include an owner’s deck with a private outside deck and spa pool.

Other noteworthy features are a sundeck with a pool more than 16 feet long, a water-level beach club that spans more than 1,700 square feet, a tender garage that can hold both a 32-foot limousine tender and a 26-foot multipurpose tender; and an elevator that services all decks.

Guest accommodations: Plans call for main-deck staterooms that can adjoin as suites, accommodating parties as large as 18 guests. Separate quarters are for 20 crew (and include a private crew gymnasium).

Expensive News – Will 2017 be the year we hail a flying Uber?

Picture this: a well-dressed man enters the elevator of his high-rise condo, but instead of going down, he heads up to the roof. There, he hops inside his autonomous Uber aircraft and whizzes across town to the rooftop of his office building. The charge? $179, give-or-take surge pricing.

This vision of urban, aerial transport is probably still many years in the future, but I’m optimistic we could start seeing flying car prototypes this year. After all, who could guess that we’d start seeing self-driving cars picking up and dropping off passengers in large American cities in 2016? (Even if it just lasted a week.)

Uber started the year by slashing its fares to the bone in a concerted effort to kill off competitors like Lyft, and ended the…
